FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

The intergalactic love rock opera SMILE SWAMP PRINCESS has released a music video and new single, “XXXO,” on November 4, 2014.

The third music video from the group, XXXO shows the Odyssean journey of a lost space cowboy, who crashes onto a strange swamp planet and discovers the source of the planet’s beauty and true love. Past videos include singles from a previously released Smile Swamp Princess EP, Antag and Slug Song

Director Patrick Stephenson carves a parallel sci-fi universe from upstate New York with glittering caves and lush blue-green forests, layering dreamy imagery and building delightfully low-fi effects. Especially charismatic is the technicolor Space Cowboy, struggling to survive and make sense of his psychedelic wanderings among slugs.

The teenage-love queries exchanged are catchy and relatable, but here on Swamp Planet, the rich, heartbreaking voice of the Swamp Princess alone will make you feel the gravitational pull.

XXXO casual cruises into high-flying space junkadelica. Vapor trail melodies bop along like the slowest, brokest car along an island dirt road at dusk. Smile Swamp Princess grants you passage into their hidden holy space swamp land.

BIO

SMILE SWAMP PRINCESS: A ROCK OPERA has performed to sold-out theaters in Boston and New York City, and will continue to take the show on tour.

The piece grew from a living room collaboration of musicians into a multidisciplinary visual and physical epic for the stage. Brooklyn composers Justin Johnson and Megan Lui realized that the material they created together was much more than a rock album.

After witnessing a groundbreaking performance of Karen O’s genre-bending “Stop the Virgens,” and influenced by the theatrical musicianship of David Bowie, the project was manifested into a surreal, psychedelic and mythical telling of the story.

Bittersweet dusk settles on a fading swamp planet and the loyal, but restless Princess must decide whether to stay and save her hometown or to follow her new Space Cowboy into everlasting galactic true love.

Shrouded in nightshade soundscapes that conjure a swiftly pulsing interdependent planet bursting with life, it is the Princess who wonders if there’s more to life than swamp. Her melancholy dreams are interrupted by throaty rock growls of jubilation from a cosmic explorer who digs his cowboy boots into the sludge of the bayou. The belting, soul-creaming exchanges by the planet’s keeper and its intruder are too beautiful to be of this world, and too tragic to compare to an ordinary love story.

The live show extends beyond the plain-clothes performance of traditional bands, beyond the $2 light shows and connect-the-dots musical theatre. Instead, armed with kaleidoscopic visual projections, sparkling museum-worthy costumes, and powerhouse voices whose collective harmonies move mountains, SMILE SWAMP PRINCESS: A ROCK OPERA explores a narrative in gut-wrenching, awe-inspiring rock opera form.
